The Medical Marijuana Program (MMP) was launched in El Dorado County in August 2007. Following the passage of Senate Bill 420, the State of California established the MMP which requires counties to offer a voluntary Medical Marijuana Identification Card (MMIC). This program serves as a means to identify patients who have received a recommendation from their physician to use marijuana for a variety of medical purposes. However, SB 420 does not protect patients from Federal prosecution for possession of marijuana. |
