CALWORKS WELFARE-TO-WORK
Welfare to Work is the employment and training component of the CalWORKs program. It is designed to help individuals on cash assistance become employed and self-sufficient. Through ongoing case management, individuals are assisted with addressing various barriers to employment. The Welfare to Work program coordinates with many other agencies, often ‘linking’ services for the benefit of families. The job services offered through the Welfare to Work program include:
- case management
- assessment of skills and education
- job readiness workshops
- assisted job search
- access to Connections - One Stop
- work experience placement
- educational activities
- supportive services
Supportive services are subject to pre-approval based on assigned Welfare to Work activities and need. Supportive services may include payment for, or referral for counseling, to the following:
- transportation
- childcare
- ancillary
- substance abuse
- mental health
- domestic violence
- learning disability
A variety of services are also available for up to 12-months to assist individuals in retaining their employment once they have gone off of CalWORKs cash assistance.
