Confidential Marriage License
Confidential Marriage license's are issued in accordance
with California State Family Code Part 4, Section 500. When two persons, have been living together, they may be married pursuant to this chapter by a person authorized to solemnize a marriage. The license, is good for 90 days after its issuance by the
county clerk, and may only be used in the county in which it was issued. The fee for the license is $53.00.
As the license name indicates, it is a "Confidential"
license. In order to obtain a copy of the license once it has been registered
with the County Recorder-Clerk, either the husband or wife must personally
appear with proper identification at the Recorder-Clerk office, or, if
requesting a certified copy by mail, must either include the "tear-off"
portion at the bottom of the copy presented by the person performing the
ceremony or obtain a "certificate of identity" from a Notary
Public and include it with the request. The request should include the
bride's maiden name, husbands name, date of marriage, place of marriage,
and a check made out to the Recorder-Clerk for $14.00.
If you include a self addressed legal size envelope it will
speed the process. Copies of Confidential
Marriage Licenses
cannot be ordered by a FAX request.
