JAMES R. "JACK" SWEENEY
DISTRICT THREE
James R. “Jack” Sweeney,
a lifelong El Dorado County resident and Placerville native,
successfully and overwhelmingly won the support of District
III residents during a special election held on July 29, 2003
to fill the vacancy left by the untimely death of Supervisor
Carl Borelli. Supervisor Sweeney ran unopposed for a
consecutive four year term and was sworn into office on December
14, 2004. An El Dorado County Supervisor from 1985 – 1993,
Supervisor Sweeney brings years of experience, knowledge and
leadership to the board.
Born and raised in Placerville, Jack
worked the Sweeney family ranch which consisted of 1500 acres,
including 300 head of cattle and over 60 acres of pears. Jack’s
professional career includes ten years building highways with
Caltrans as an engineering technician. Another decade
spent with various private surveying and engineering firms
culminated in the development of Sweeney Land Surveying, which
he has owned and operated since 1972.
Jack’s service and commitment
to the citizens of El Dorado County spans several decades and
includes participation in the following organizations, boards,
and committees: Mother Lode Union School District Board,
Mother Lode Lions, Timber Little League, 4-H, Future Farmers
of America, Chairman, El Dorado County Charter Commission,
El Dorado County Supervisorial Redistricting Committee, El
Dorado County Board of Equalization Appeals Board, Citizens
for Water, Rubicon Oversight Committee, El Dorado County Taxpayer’s
Association, El Dorado County Republican Central Committee
and California Republican Assembly.
While primarily focusing on the concerns
of District III residents, Supervisor Sweeney remains committed
to water and land use issues, senior and veteran services,
a strong, fiscally sound budget and protecting the rural character
of El Dorado County.
Supervisor Sweeney resides in Diamond
Springs. He has four grown children, seven grandchildren
and three great grandchildren. |
